Holiday Parties are in full swing. Last week I attended 3 outstanding events:
- A Riedel Glassware Champagne Tasting Workshop with Georg Riedel which is typically only available to winemakers and industry professionals. Super informative and a great learning experience (see full details with pics below).
- Vintage powerhouse SparkPretty’s Crystal Ball-Themed Holiday Extravaganza!!
- Nick Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Creams Sorbaes Calendar Release Party at The Ace Hotel
Read on below for more details on all the holiday party trends coming out of these 3 special events as well as each events’ secret ingredients for success.
RIEDEL CHAMPAGNE TASTING WORKSHOP
Just in time for holiday festivities, I got this amazing opportunity to experience firsthand – with the master of glassware, Georg Riedel (10th generation Riedel!) – the exactness of matching varietal specific glassware with the wines they were meant for.
Ten of us were invited to this event and we tasted 3 different champagnes/sparkling wines – each in 8 different types of glassware.
And the winner was:
The winning glass was Riedel’s Veritas Champagne Wine Glass! It was designed specifically to compliment the aromas and effervescence of Champagne. This is the NEW trend in how we think about champagne: consider it a white wine and serve it in a glass with a wider bowl shape to permit greater air exposure which allows complex aromas to open up. Flutes and coupes do not do great champagne any favors.
Secret ingredients for this event : Learning, exclusivity, interactive
Amanda Dolan (Founder) and Meagan Colby (Head Consultant) hosted the wildly creative “CRYSTAL BALL CHRISTMAS.” Guests arrived in turbans, sequins, caftans, sparkles, feathers, fringe, and even an ugly Christmas sweater or two.
Amanda’s food choices are always noteworthy and tie in with SparkPretty’s vintage theme: deviled eggs, fondues, delicious dips.

MORGENSTERN’S FINEST ICE CREAMS: SORBAES CALENDAR RELEASE PARTY
at Liberty Hall @ The Ace Hotel
Super cool event for the launch of Morgenstern’s first annual calendar. Every month is paired with a “Sorbae” and their personal sorbet flavor. A unique collaboration of food, fashion, art, and beauty on each page. Photography by Blaise Cepis. Hair and Makeup by Andi Metro. Styling by Alexandra Sheehan. Design by Brian Paul Lamotte.
Loved the huge, diverse mix of gorgeous young things. Of course, ice cream was served and DJ’s (Amrit Sidhu, Jennifly and Vincent Oshin of Death To Tennis) kept the crowd on their feet and dancing – almost got me on the dance floor!
I left a little after midnight and the party was clearly going strong well into the wee early hours.
Secret Ingredient: Nick Morgenstern!!! The ultimate collaborator – and his crew of cool, talented downtown insiders and creatives.
