Cherae is an amazing young entrepreneur. Recently named by Forbes.com as one of 10 emerging women entrepreneurs to watch, she was also the first place winner in 2014 of the She Leads Africa Startup Competition. She has also been featured in Black Enterprise, Fusion.net, FOX Business, and Ventures Africa.
She reached out to me through LinkedIn to discuss influencer marketing for Tastemakers Africa, her first venture which is a mobile app that allows users to find and buy hip experiences across the African continent. From hotels to restaurants, nightclubs to shopping, and under the radar excursions, Tastemakers Africa offers an a la carte way for modern jetsetters to have an “Afripolitan” experience. I am just thrilled that I had the opportunity to meet this fantastic woman (thank you LinkedIn). I’m also super grateful that this influencer is willing to share her influences with us. Can’t wait to check out new hot spot Casablanca in Bed Stuy, some of her favorite instagram accounts and her signature lipstick shade – Mac’s Ruby Woo (already bought that!!).
YOUR THREE FAVORITE PLACES TO GET A FIX ON WHAT’S NEW AND INFLUENTIAL
Bed Vyne + Brew – It captures Bed-Stuy (my neighborhood) and you just never know who you’ll meet there. Its very “new Brooklyn” in that there is music from all around the world, the people are colorful and beautiful, and no one really seems to have a “job” job!
Liberty Fairs – I follow their collaborations and it never ceases to amaze me how people I find interesting always seem to end up working with them. It’s a trade show that feels more like an existence which I love.
3 BRANDS/ STORES/ SERVICES YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT
MAC Ruby Woo Lipstick – Even on my dreariest days, I feel instantly fierce when I wear it, in the winter, a simple black lip pencil turns it into the perfect wine.
Dr. Bronner’s 18-in-1 Castille Soap – Peppermint for Summer, Lavender for Winter. The scent of the soap turns the shower into an instant spa and when I can’t keep my brain still, I can always read the somewhat random/esoteric words on the bottle.
J. Crew – When I’m in a lazy shopping mood (most days) and I need to just know that it’ll fit, it’ll last, and it’ll be acceptable.
WHAT’S NEW IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD THAT I SHOULD ABSOLUTELY CHECK OUT
Bed Vyne Cocktail – The owner of Bed Vyne Brew is opening this up, I expect that’ll up the ante of the wine store and beer joint mostly because of the higher alcohol content.
Saraghina’s new bar – Our favorite brick-oven pizzeria that has the perfect patio is expanding down the block with a bar that’ll serve up cocktails and charcuterie – I’ll be there ALL summer.
Casablanca – After a really fun New Year’s Eve opening, I can’t wait to see what the kitchen produces once it opens. It’s about 3 blocks from my house so we can go together!
