A Day In The Life of Rodrigo Padilla – My Amazing, Super Stylish, Wonderful Friend

Working with Sally H on one of her clients. I still learn new things every time I work with her. http://sallyhershberger.com/shop-sally/

Rodrigo and I have been fast friends from the moment we met more than 5 years ago at Arris Lofts in LIC.  He is one of the coolest, savviest, most stylish – and without a doubt – one of the most fun people I’ve ever met.  He’s also a renowned hair stylist with Sally Hershberger downtown.

Rodrigo is also an amazing cook and has an incredible talent for creating the most beautiful home environments – classy and stylish but totally chill and comfortable at the same time.  I am always inspired by Rodrigo.  And believe me, a party is NEVER a party, without Rodrigo’s glorious presence!!!

I am thrilled that Rodrigo is sharing his day with us – everything from his Insanity workouts to Diptyque candles to Sedu blowdryers.  He’s also sharing a peek at his (and Elliot’s) gorgeous vacation properties in Puerto Rico.  Read more below the break.

8am.   Shaun T and me.

30 minutes of pure Insanity. We’ve got a great gym in our building, but I prefer the intimacy of working out at home—in my underwear. I’m sure our neighbors appreciate that I do this behind closed doors.

Fuel for the day.

Usually spinach, celery, cucumber, ginger, carrots, apple, orange and lime.

The most important ritual of the day when getting ready to head to work.

Light up Diptyque Feu de Bois candle – it sets the tone for how the day will be.

The core accoutrements with which I launch my day.

For my body: Aedes de Venutas soap, Le Labo Santal 33 body wash. For my hair: Shu Uemura Moisture Velvet Shampoo, no conditioner. For my face: NeoStrata Facial Cleanser.

Outfit check.

Wide variety of options–all shades of black. There are many reasons why the world is finally discovering Queens. One is our closet in our LIC apartment—it’s bigger than many Manhattan apartments.

I never leave the apartment without my kit.

Shown here: Bottega Veneta black bag containing my Sedu blow drier, Matzuzaki shears, and Japanese comb. Inside are my brushes, 24K Dry Shampoo, 24K Texturizing Paste, Keratin RX (all by Sally Hershberger), Creed Travel Size cologne, and my Tom Ford glasses and wallet—all black.

Arrive to the salon

Sally Hershberger—in the Meatpacking Distric. I started out as Sally’s assistant, and am now the guy who cuts her hair.

My first client of the day.

This is the way we do it at Sally Hershberger Downtown.

Hair test with Sally for her upcoming Sally Hershberger Professional Hair Care photo shoot.

Noon – I do a lot of house calls for frequent clients.

I step out of the salon to work with Jill Dienst at her residence

And we then move over to her gallery, Dienst and Dotter, http://dienstanddotter.com.

5pm – I’m headed back to the salon

Meeting with Brooke Garber Neidich, an amazing woman I literally have to run to keep up with.

Brooke is Co-Chair of the Whitney’s Board of Trustees, founder of the Child Mind Institute, http://www.childmind.org, and the coolest jewelry designer today. http://sidneygarber.com

Finally back home at 8:15pm.

Elliott, my boyfriend, is usually at yoga when I get home, so I ease into the evening much the same way I start the day—Le Labo Santal 26 candle, incense and Pandora playing Hercules & Love Affair station.

And voilà—dinner is served. I do the cooking; Elliott does the cleaning. We usually do a red during the winter and then transition to white as the weather warms up.

After dinner, we wrap up the evening watching a bit of TV while working on our latest venture—The Collection at Rio Mar—a curated selection of high end vacation rental properties in Puerto Rico. We just launched our 3rd property and are delighted with the results.
