Affordable, but not “downmarket”: how do your brands stack up?

Interesting article in Refinery29 on why Uniqlo may soon become the IKEA of clothes (which I don’t buy into at all).  However, they make a great point about the value of being affordable, but not “downmarket.”

Made me consider which of my go-to brands fall into that classification e.g.  Shake Shack vs. McDonald’s, Target vs. Walmart, Aloft Hotel vs. Day’s Inn.

Which of your brands do you consider affordable vs. downmarket??
