bitforms: top gallery for shows melding art and technology

LOVE this gallery. Consistently great shows by artists who are engaged with new technologies. The gallery has been around since 2001 but I only became familiar with them after they moved to the Lower East Side in 2014. They’ve been way ahead of their time in supporting and advocating for the collection of ephemeral, time-based, and digital art works. Every show I’ve seen there has been outstanding.

Read below for info on the current show.

The current show is by Marina Zurkow, a media artist focused on the intersection of nature and culture. This is her second solo show with the gallery. She is also the recipient of a 2011 John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship and has received awards from the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Rockefeller Foundation, and Creative Capital.

It says a lot about vision and influence of Steven Sacks, the founder of the gallery, that so many bitforms artists are in the collections of leading museums including MoMA, Tate Modern, Guggenheim, Centre Pompidou, and Stedelijk Museum among many others.

131 Allen Street, NYC
Wednesday – Sunday
This show running til April 3, 2016
