Let’s start with what worked: LOVED, LOVED, LOVED The Last Bookstore and it’s upstairs galleries especially Liz Huston’s studio. Definitely worth checking out anytime – no need to wait for the Art Walk. Also loved many of the downtown buildings that are currently housing galleries. What makes the Art Walk so sketchy is how disorganized it is. There is a map that we managed to get our hands on and that definitely helped but overall it just seems to be one big pot-smoking mess. Also, while there was lots of interesting art, the price points were confusing e.g. an unremarkable painting is priced at $6,000 and hangs next to some totally amazing eclectic sculpture for $40. Now this was my first time at the Art Walk so perhaps I missed the best but what we experienced last night would not encourage a second visit.
Two non-gallery highlights were: Peddler’s Creamery – an artisanal ice cream place that churns it’s ice creams by bicycle. Really fabulous and worth checking out. And dinner at Bestia was awesome!!! Great space, great food!!
