I am always on the hunt for clothes strong on minimalism but with an attitude (most especially since joining Neuehouse and Ludlow House where everyone looks fabulous all the time!). Today I found a WINNER!!! Stumbled upon Anthom in lower Soho on my walk home from PT. I am still buzzing with excitement about my buys!!
First of all, the store is beautiful – open and airy. And somehow they have managed to display the clothes in a completely inviting way – you want to reach into the racks and try on every item. Next, the sales staff is wonderful!! One of the two people helping me turned out to be the owner, Ashley Turchin – an amazing merchant!! Anthom, btw, started as an online store in DC before moving to brick and mortar (previously in Chelsea and LES). On their website they describe themselves as catering to thoughtful women who appreciate design, quality, and uniqueness, clothes that women can live in and subtly stand out. Absolutely true.
The items I bought today remind me a little of my Yohji and Comme de Garcon phase (in style, NOT price!). I especially love the fabrics – they feel amazing (something I was never happy with at COS). Prices are in the mid-$300s for dresses. And, because they have great relationships with their designers, they may be able to get out-of-stock items/sizes made for you. I tried on a pair of the most well-tailored, great-fitting pants that were unfortunately, not available in my size, so they texted the designer and hopefully I will get good news about their availability soon.
Anthom is my go-to for the foreseeable future!!
Location: 25 Mercer Street near Howard
