Hearst has seen epic increases in online readership – up over 40%!

Great interview in folio.com with Troy Young, President of Hearst Digital Media about their portfolio’s 40% increase in new users. I checked out the 8 big winners for whom November was the best month in brand history.  They all use a similar template – very clean, easy to read, easy to navigate. My favorites were elle.com and delish.com (up 69% and 96% respectively) but MarieClaire.com grew the most at 132%.

Highlights of what’s going on at Hearst digital (and link to full article here):

. More effective at telling stories with specific points-of-view that resonate with very specific audiences e.g. popularmechanics.com (up 48%) vs. esquire.com (up 61%).

. 35% of traffic comes from social with Facebook the majority of that number

. A focus on Snapchat, Twitter and Facebook to reach Millennials

. Increased online traffic has resulted in 100% increase in newsletter subscribers since last November
