Anybody else an early riser? I’m up at the crack of dawn every day of the week – and this has been my routine ever since I was a kid. I find that time absolutely glorious. It’s quiet but always exciting because a brand new day is in the making. And David Hockney is right about that beautiful early morning light – it is magical!
And, of course, there’s always this:
Scroll down for 5 reasons why mornings are simply the best!
The morning light. I have never, in any place I’ve lived, had curtains or window shades to keep the light out. As a matter of fact, if I stay at a hotel, the first thing I do is open the shades to make sure I get the natural light first thing in the morning. Having shades drawn and waking up in a dark room, reminds me of death (really!). I loathe it.
The possibility of a fresh start. I don’t know why, because my life certainly hasn’t been all peaches and cream, but every morning when I wake up (generally at around 5AM), I am always optimistic about the potential of this new day. No matter what problems I have, the new day brings new opportunities (whether that ends up being true or not!).
My morning coffee ritual. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve had coffee with my breakfast. My parents were factory workers and the three of us would always have early morning coffee together. I loved that routine back then and I love it now. I can’t imagine my mornings without my leisurely two cups of coffee. Currently, Lavazza, made the French press way.
Getting a jump on the day while the rest of the world is snoozing. I am a big fan of to-do lists and making sure that the most complex or onerous tasks get done first. It gives me a feeling of accomplishment to check things off that list early in the day. I also spend at least an hour reviewing my Google News which I’ve customized over the years to deliver topics I might want to write about. I love digging into those searches – especially when I discover something really new and esoteric. Super exciting when that happens.
The Gym. I get my workout in every morning by 7:30 (8am on weekends!). Taking care of my health is priority #1. And for me, it’s got to be done first thing in the morning.
I know I’m not the only one who is a committed early riser. There’s a whole bunch of you out there because I routinely get early, early texts and emails from you, my fellow early birds. Here’s to us!
And that’s it for this morning! I have a very busy week ahead of me as I get ready for my South America trip. Posts may start to get a little less consistent over the next week. I will keep you updated.
In the meantime, have a great weekend everyone!
