La Mamounia Hotel – WOW!! extraordinary. If you’re in this neck of the woods, you MUST stay here – totally exquisite. Recently reopened after a 3-year renovation – I could stay here for 3-4 days just to get acclimated. Beautiful rooms, great service and fabulous pool area.
Medina/Ben Youssef Medrasa/Bahia Palace – this is a fantastic walking tour of the old walled city. It includes the former Islamic college founded in the 14th Century that housed up to 900 students and the gorgeous Bahia Palace that shows beautiful Moroccan and Islamic architectural styles.
Majorelle Gardens – the garden had been owned by Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Bergé since 1980. After Yves Saint Laurent died in 2008 his ashes were scattered in the garden. Make sure you check out the Islamic Art Museum of Marrakech. The collection includes North African textiles from Saint-Laurent’s personal collection as well as ceramics, jewelry, and paintings by Majorelle – it is STUNNING!!!
Souks – pretty fabulous!! Snake charmers, monkeys dressed in NFL jerseys, wonderful array of olives and spices, jewelry and carpets (i bought one!! crazy!!). Definitely worthwhile but way pricier than you might anticipate and I would recommend you go with a guide.
Cats – gazillions of street cats – used to keep rodents at bay.
