Just got my iPhone 7 Plus and my first chance to use Apple Pay. OMG, amazing. I totally get why 1 million new users are joining weekly!! I used it at Whole Foods and it is magical, your fingerprint on your phone held by the checkout device. BOOM! Paid just like that. Additionally, I now get immediate notification whenever I use the credit card attached to Apple Pay which is pretty cool.
The only issue I have with it is that many of my favorite haunts, don’t accept it yet. However, I am happy (and surprised) that I can use it when I shop at Duane Reade, Bloomingdale’s, Crate&Barrel, Panera, Sephora, Trader Joe’s, and Walgreen’s.

Careband, a wearable technology for people with dementia living in long-term care facilities. The wristband precisely pinpoints the location of patients 24/7. The software gathers data on the patient’s schedule, so it can alert the caregiver when there is a change in behavior, such as a fall. Careband can track a patient indoors, as well as from a 3-mile radius outside. It also offers a 30-day battery life.
Caregoals helps physicians introduce, educate, document, and record conversations about advanced-care planning. $270 billion is spent on unwanted care in the last month of life, said co-founder Blaine Warkentine. The patient can use the software on a tablet at a clinic, so the doctor knows the patient’s wishes for end-of-life care. There is also a 10-minute conversation recorded at the end. The process lasts from 12 to 20 minutes, leading seniors through a series of questions and videos to make end-of-life decisions before an episode occurs and it is too late to do so.
This is the first time I have EVER paid for an app ($1.99) because I thought this was such a cool idea. Don’t bother. It only works in a very limited way and it also only works in iMessage for texting.
3. APPLE CONTINUES TO LOSE ITS MOJO
Apple Pay notwithstanding, market analysts are starting to equate Tim Cook’s leadership at Apple to Steve Ballmer’s tenure at Microsoft. The latest disappointment (besides slowing iphone sales) is the impending closure – because of poor sales – of the Apple Watch Shops in Galeries Lafayette. As mentioned earlier, I just got the new iPhone 7 but I can’t say I am all that jazzed about it. I’m not ready to move out of the Apple ecosystem but I’m itching for a change.
