It’s the Weekend: Time for Some Absolutely Stellar Art at the Whitney

Kenny Scharf and Keith Haring

FAST FORWARD: PAINTING FROM THE 1980’s  just opened and is MUST-SEE if you’re in NYC or planning to visit sometime before mid-May.

Artists in the show include Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf, Sherrie Levine, David Salle, Eric Fischl, Julian Schnabel and many more. Special kudos to Jane Panetta, associate curator and Melinda Lang, curatorial assistant for installing this absolutely phenomenal show!!

And on a personal note, the late ‘80s hold a particular place in my heart. It’s when I first developed an interest in art and it’s also when I met Brad (at an art opening). Living downtown at that time was exhilarating with new galleries and alternative art spaces like Exit Art and Thread Waxing Space hosting killer shows and performances. I even met Basquiat (ever so briefly) at his last gallery show in 1988.

Details:

The 1980’s painting show is on the 8th floor. Running til May 14, 2017.

While at the Whitney, also check out the portrait shows on the 6th and 7th floors with work by Kerry James Marshall, Alison Saar, Chuck Close, Andy Warhol and many more.
