WTC Observatory Elevator ride up to 102nd floor is AMAZING!!

Checked out the World Trade Center Observatory on Wednesday. The elevator ride up is absolutely 5-star!! Watch this video from the NY Times – it’s incredible and shows the animated time lapse video in the elevator. It recreates the development of New York City’s skyline, from the 1500s to today – the ending is particularly dramatic. It takes just 47 seconds to get to the 102nd floor traveling at 2,000 feet a minute, or 23 miles an hour.

Beyond the elevator ride, however, it’s like Times Square once you get up there. Good views but if you’ve ever been in any NYC skyscraper, you’ve seen it already. The hawking of  souvenirs is just kind of tacky. If you do want to check it out (and the elevator just might make it worth doing) get your tickets online ($32 for an adult and $26 for kids).

The elevator show was designed and produced by the Hettema Group of Pasadena, Calif., and Blur Studio of Culver City, Calif. The overall architect is Montroy Andersen DeMarco of New York.
